SCHEDULE
Sunday, May 9
Seventh Sunday of Easter
Mother’s Day
Lectionary Readings:
Acts 16: 9-15 John 14: 23-29 Psalm 67
Sermon:
“Mamma Mia”
Still looking for that
perfect Mother’s Day gift?
How about treating mom
to a cruise of the Greek Isles this Sunday - virtually speaking, that is?
We set sail at 10:30 a.m. with Paul and Silas. According to Acts 16, the
weather will be spectacular…so brings your shades and sunscreen. After a
brief respite on the island of Samothrace….we’ll press on to Neopolis. At
that point, we’ll need comfortable walking shoes because a short hike to
Philippi is planned….where I will introduce you to Lydia – a fascinating
woman who is the first convert to Christianity in Europe. She’s a
successful Greek businesswoman, who some contend bears a striking
resemblance to Meryl Streep. I’ll let you be the judge. One thing is for
sure, this Biblical Mamma Mia is sure to “spark a fire in your soul.”
Youth Sermon: “Because
Nothing Looks Like God”
by Lawrence and Karen
Kushner
Where is God? What
does God look like? How does God make things happen? As we tackle some of
the “big” questions we all have about God, we will begin to explore a
framework for spiritual thinking that is guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Book Study
9:00 a.m.
Our final adult discussion
of Philip Gulley’s If the Church Were Christian: Rediscovering the
Values of Jesus will be this Sunday, May 9 at 9:00 a.m. Our topic: “If the
Church were Christian….affirming our potential would be more important than
condemning our brokenness.” We will resume these discussions in the Fall.
